It’s a new year with new surprises at Horizon School, and one exciting addition is the Writers of the Month program. We spoke with Mrs. Johnson, the principal of Horizon School, about this new program and its importance.

Mrs. Johnson stated that Writers of the Month is “a way for teachers to nominate their students for their writing. Students who are nominated will have their writing displayed in the trophy case.” She wanted to recognize students for their hard work and celebrate their writing.

When asked why she decided to start the program, Mrs. Johnson said that she wanted “kids to see other kids’ writing and to recognize the kids who are working really hard as writers.” She hopes that students will be inspired by their peers and motivated to improve their own writing.

The Writers of the Month winners are selected by teachers at the end of each month. Mrs. Johnson shared, “I ask the teachers to select a student who they feel has done outstanding work in writing.” This ensures that every student has a fair chance to be recognized for their dedication and growth as a writer.

Students who earn this honor receive recognition in several ways. Mrs. Johnson said, “Yes, their names are announced on the morning announcements, and at the end of the month, they get to take home their nomination slips.” This not only celebrates their success but also encourages other students to aim high in their writing.

Finally, Mrs. Johnson shared her goal for the program. She hopes to “create a school culture proud of writing and provide an audience for writing so kids can learn from their peers.” By honoring student writers, Horizon School encourages everyone to see the value in sharing their work and learning from one another.

Remember, every story you write is an adventure waiting to happen! Get started today!
