What Is JA BizTown?
JA Biztown is a small model town in Milwaukee. Following a small social studies unit, students spent a whole day living like adults. They had jobs, received paychecks, and had breaks for shopping and lunch. Students could buy food and other items like newspapers to feel their hard work was paying off! Now that you know the overview of BizTown, let’s get some input from the citizens!
JA BizTown: A Future Readying Experience
When asked how they liked BizTown, 5th Grade citizens who experienced BizTown firsthand responded that they loved the meaningful experience. This field trip helped them commit to preparing themselves for their futures. They did this by participating in real-world jobs and experiences that exposed them to real-life scenarios. Also, Biztown helped them with their social skills. For example, when they needed assistance at the bank, they had to use their social skills to get the assistance they needed. Furthermore, BizTown will help 5th graders on their journey to ASA Clark and even further in life. BizTown also enhances students’ social and leadership skills, which they will use later in life.
Our Day in BizTown: Behind the Scenes with Ava & Sophie
Ava: BizTown was such a great experience! One of my favorite parts was my job. I worked as an Ad Executioner, collecting ads and preparing invoices. It was fun and made me feel like I had a real career.
Sophie: I agree—BizTown was amazing! I worked as a bank teller at US Bank. I loved talking to people and working with money. It felt exciting and important.
BizTown was a fun and memorable day for all 5th graders. It allowed us to learn, explore real-world jobs, and experience what being part of a community is like.
