March Madness is one of the oldest traditions at Horizon. All the kids are hyped up for the games, and it's the most exciting school-wide basketball game. Students and teachers are rivals, which adds to the excitement. March Madness was even more special this year because we could use the high school gym for the games.
The Games
The third-graders were winning at the end of the first half of the teachers vs. third-graders game. The second half was exciting, and the teachers and third graders were tied! After the second half, we had an exercise break and played Simon Says. Then, we played a game of Lightning, and the winner was a fifth grader.
The second game was the fourth graders vs. the teachers. The game was loud and enthusiastic, but sadly, the teachers were winning at the end of the first half. The second half was thrilling, with the students winning 28-22. During the second exercise break, the audience members did the Wave. After that, we played a game called Four Corners.
Finally, the fifth-grade game was loud, and the teachers were in the lead. During the second half of the game, the crowd was riled up, and now it was up to the fifth graders to win. During the game, risks were taken to win, but sadly, the teachers won, and the students were defeated, 38 to 30.
What a fantastic experience for our Horizon students: playing on the same court as our high school teams and cheering from the enormous bleachers. Before we know it, we will be in high school. We can reflect on this experience as one of our final and treasured memories at Horizon School.
