How Can You Solve Problems at Recess?

Imagine you are playing at recess and you see a problem start. What should you do? First, think about the Tree of Choices. Is it a small problem or a big problem?  If it is a small problem, try to solve it on your own by talking calmly, using kind words, taking deep breaths, or walking it out until you feel ready to play again.  If it is a big problem, like fighting or someone getting hurt, you should get an adult right away. Thank you, Mrs. Jannsen-Koch, for teaching us about the Tree of Choices during Guidance. Recess is a great time to apply our new learning.

How to Use the Calming Cove the Right Way

The Calming Cove is a space for students to calm down or take a break when they feel upset or overwhelmed. It is not a place to play or fool around. We have noticed some materials being damaged or removed from the Calming Cove, which is unacceptable. These tools are important for students who need help calming their minds and bodies, so please treat them with care.

How to Use the Ball Cart Wisely

The equipment on the ball cart is available for use by everyone. When the whistle blows, stop playing and carefully walk the equipment back to the cart. Do not kick or throw balls after the whistle. If students don’t use the equipment responsibly, it may be taken away, and we all want recess to stay fun for everyone!

Food Should Stay Inside

After lunch, students should not take food and drinks outside to recess. Drinks can spill, food can be left behind, and trash can end up on the playground or in areas such as the gaga ball pit. Running while eating can also be unsafe. Keeping food inside helps keep our playground clean and safe for everyone.

When we make good choices, recess stays fun, safe, and fair for all!
